Books: Design & Disney
Who doesn’t know the name of Walt Disney? His film company is one of the most famous in the world and since the early part of the last century, his name has been synonymous with laughter and fun. Millions visit his theme parks every year. Today, the existence of these, and the Disney characters, products and movies, are something we all take for granted.
But how did this empire begin? Who else was involved in the enormous success of what has now become a huge business? And what about the design, the illustrations and the animations that helped to produce those early blockbusters?
I tend to forget, when watching anything from the Disney Studios that until relatively recently these films were made by hand – there was no modern technology involved. Characters, backgrounds, posters, everything… all were created by artists by hand. Because I’m a designer who relies on a computer for everything, this fascinates me so I was delighted to discover that there is a fabulous range of books available directly from Disney itself. They can be easily ordered online and are a wonderful gift idea or addition to your own library.
